Thanksgiving Photography
Thanksgiving is one great time of the year to take pictures of everyone that you love. Follow these great suggestions to keep all your photographs bright and beautiful.
Frame the subject properly
The main subject should be framed properly in the viewfinder. Make sure that the background is not too distracting or there is nothing behind that might ruin the entire picture.
Capture everything higher than eye level
Since everyone is almost surrounded with food, party accessories, and the mouth-watering turkey – you might want to focus on people instead. If it is slightly higher than the eye level of the tallest person in the room, that is a perfect shot.
Be creative
You are the director of the event and it is up to you how you would like the people to be positioned – whether they would sit, stand, or pose candidly. Offer a suggestion on what you want to be captured on the pictures. On the other hand, you can also take pictures while people are caught unaware, making it more interesting. Anticipate the moment when you think you can get a great shot.
Adjust room lighting
The celebration is usually indoors so if the room is too dark or if the lighting is too low, put on as many light sources as possible. You can customize the white balance setting so it will match with the main source of light. You can also adjust the digital camera sensitivity mode to get bright and clear shots of the subjects and events. But if you think that the daylight would suffice, open up all the windows and let the sunshine in.
Take note of the built-in flash mode
It is best to stay within the maximum or minimum flash range. Any shiny surfaces that will reflect light on the subjects should be avoided. When you are using new or fully charged batteries, the flash recycles faster.
Include yourself in the fun!
Even if you are the events director or photographer, it does not necessarily mean that you should be left behind for all those shots. Put the camera on a tripod, use the self-timer mode, make sure it is on a level surface and flash your best smile ever.
