Night Photography
Mostly photographers avoid taking shoots at night, it’s because of one simple reason; it’s hard to take images at night or low light conditions. Cameras are originally made for taking pictures at day time and that is why most of the cameras will not perform well at low light conditions. But taking a few good steps into consideration you can avoid disasters and produce gems. Night time pictures can be breathtaking because mostly people expect to see day time picture but when seeing some quality snaps of night; they are surly amazed aren’t they?
You should keep few things in mind before going for night time photography. You must have a set plan and should be able to know when the sun sets and the moon rises if you are willing to take their picture too. Update yourself with the local weather forecast and also bring with you a bug spray because you will need it if its summer season.
Using tripod or camera stand is essential for night time photography. You will require this since you have to stabilize you camera while taking pictures. Also set your exposure to -2 or -1 as your camera will try to glow up your shoots automatically searching for bright spots in your shots. Some digital camera also have the feature of night setting which offers you good starting point for your night time exposure.
Avoid using on-phone flash light at night because it works and cover only 5 to 6 meters and perhaps will over expose the object in your shoot. It’s better to turn off flash and use the light already available for you. Keep the ISO setting to the maximum so that you can use the maximum available shutter speed. The higher the shutter speed is the shorter the exposure you can use. This is extremely important for night time photography.
Take as many pictures as you can, it will increase your chances to produce some great pictures. Try different level of exposures to see which level suits the best. By doing this you also will gain lots of experience and understanding about night time photography. Always try to take pictures before it’s too dark because some colors in snaps will add charm and life to your photos.
Finally always review your snaps thoroughly to delete the trash and keep the best snaps you have taken. You should know where you have gone wrong with them and on what point you were the best while taking your picture. You must always know your weaknesses and strong point. So that you can exploit your abilities to the maximum later some time.
